Two PdL secretaries under investigation in Fiorito probes

(ANSA) - Rome, September 28 - Two secretaries from ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom (PdL) party are being probed in a regional corruption scandal that erupted earlier this month. Bruno Galassi and Pierluigi Boschi were both PdL secretaries for former regional chief Franco Fiorito, who was placed under investigation for suspected embezzlement of party funds after his offices were searched by police mid-September. Boschi is also Fiorito's cousin, investigators said. Investigators say that Boschi and Galassi were authorized access to the party's Unicredit bank account. The men reportedly wrote and cashed two checks in their own names for 4,600 euros each. Bank transfers worth over 10,000 euros to Fiorito's godmother and girlfriend for 'services rendered' are also being investigated. The possibility that the scandal engulfing Berlusconi's centre-right party is placing it at risk of imploding has been denied by the party's founder. "No, we are not in disarray," Berlusconi told journalists on Tuesday. photo: Franco Fiorito, ex-Lazio Regional Governor
