(ANSA) - Rome, September 27 - Business confidence in recession-hit Italy dropped to its lowest level in three years this month, Istat said on Thursday. The national statistics agency said its business confidence index fell from 79 points last month to 75.5 in September. The last time it was lower was in March 2009, when the index plunged to an all-time low. Istat said the fall was due to pessimism among entreprenuers in the services sector. It said its indices fell in all the various areas that make up the sector - transport and storage, IT and communication services, business services - except for tourism services. Confidence was up, however, among companies in the industry, construction and retail sectors.
