Culture ministry axing managers, personnel in spending review

Rome's museums superintendent resigns due to govt cutbacks

(ANSA) - Rome, September 26 - Rome's superintendent of museums has resigned due to cutbacks contained in the government spending review, a statement said Friday. "The decision was taken in response to the spending review, for which the culture ministry foresees cutting 20% of managers and 10% of normal personnel who have been on the job for 40 years," said Rossella Vodret. Premier Mario Monti's emergency technocrat government approved an austerity package of tax hikes and cuts in December and it has followed up this year with more cuts in public expenditure.
