Senator Lusi released to house arrest in convent

(ANSA) - Rome, September 18 - A Rome court on Tuesday ruled that Senator Luigi Lusi should be released from a jail in the capital while he awaits trial for alleged corruption. The court said Lusi should be moved to a convent in Abruzzo so he is not in the same house as his wife, Giovanna Petricone, under investigation in the case. Lusi, who is accused of embezzling more than 25 million euros from the now-defunct centre-left Margherita party, has been in prison since June 20, when the Senate voted to grant prosecutors' request for his arrest. Lusi was expelled from Italy's main centre-left Democratic Party earlier this year after the corruption scandal exploded.
