Italy registers 4.5 billion trade surplus

(ANSA) - Rome, September 17 - Italy registered a trade surplus of 4.5 billion euros in July, the country's biggest surplus since the same month in 1998, Istat said on Monday. The surplus was over two billion euros higher than in July last year, the national statistics agency added. Istat experts said the high surplus was a result of the recession dampening domestic demand and reducing imports while the foreign market for Italian exports has largely held up. So the news is not as good as it might sound at first
