New speed limits in Viareggio for wild boar

(ANSA) - Viareggio, September 7 - New speed restrictions have been introduced in the Tuscan coastal city of Viareggio to protect the local wild boar population, municipal police said on Friday. Drivers must now limit their speed to a maximum of 40 km/h along Via Indipendenza in the port area due to the presence of wild boar in the nearby pine forest that often cross the road. Local residents have long protested against the animals which raid gardens in the area in search of food.
