Italy has averted Greek disaster, says Monti

(ANSA) - Bari, September 5 - Though the economic risks Italy has faced were comparable with Greece, through measures imposed by Premier Mario Monti and his emergency government, the worst danger has been averted, Monti said in a televised interview Wednesday. The premier, who is in the southern city of Bari, said he was optimistic about the economic situation and pointed to the position Italy found itself in this time last year. Monti said that in 2012 the threat has abated considerably and that now Italy is "among the European countries that decide how to help with the Greek problem. "It isn't by chance that we have regained a respected position in a decision-making team," he added.
