Bad weather causes disruptions across Italy

(ANSA) - Rome, September 4 - Italy is braced for more bad weather as cyclone Poppea continues to unleash storms and heavy rain across much of the country. In Lazio heavy rainfall on Tuesday morning caused flight delays into and out of Fiumicino airport and disruptions to traffic on the Rome-Fiumicino motorway. Northern Sardinia, Emilia-Romagna and other parts of north-central Italy and the southern region of Campania are all expected to see a deterioration in weather conditions during the course of the day. On Monday violent thunderstorms caused flooding and disruptions particularly in Emilia Romagna and Marche, with particular difficulties reported in coastal areas and traffic jams registered on the A14 motorway in the area of Grottammare. Two flights destined for the Sicilian city of Catania also had to be diverted to Lamezia Terme due to bad weather. The storms and showers are expected to last until Thursday, when Poppea will give way to the weather system Bacco with a return to summer weather.
