(ANSA) - Rome, September 3 - Employment at some of the largest companies in Italy fell during June, statistics agency Istat reported Monday. Work in large companies with at least 500 employees was down 0.2% compared with May, said the agency, which blames the recession for the drop. Compared with the previous year, large employers shed 1.0% of their workforce in June. Gross hourly wages rose by 1.0% in June compared with May (measured on a seasonally adjusted basis) and by a mere 1.1 % on an annual basis. At the same, the annual inflation rate reached 3.3%, according to Istat figures. Meanwhile, the number of hours worked per employee fell by 0.5% in June compared with the same period last year.
