Italy has 20% fewer under-35s in work than in 2007

(ANSA) - Rome, September 3 - The number of under-35s who have a job in recession-hit Italy has fallen by 1.4 million, or almost 20%, over the last five years, according to Istat. The national statistics agency said 5.9 million people aged between 15 and 34 were in work in the second quarter of 2012, 19.9% lower than in the same period of 2007, when 7.3 million people in this category had jobs. Istat said a huge total of 1,386,000 under-35s were looking for a job.
