Director criticized for 'blasphemous' film at festival

(ANSA) - Venice, August 31 - Austrian director Ulrich Seidl on Friday defended his film Paradise Faith being shown at the 69th Venice Film Festival that has been criticized as blasphemous. "This film may shock some, especially the figure of a woman who lives to satisfy her desires," Seidl said. The protagonist is caught between her "love for Jesus and for her husband," the director explained. The most provocative scene that has brought accusations of blasphemy shows the female character lick a cross then move it under the sheets to masturbate.
