Italian forestry corps battled 65 wildfires on Thursday

(ANSA) - Rome, August 31 - Members of Italy's forestry corps on Thursday were called out to tackle a total of 65 wildfires across the country. Calabria in the 'toe' of Italy's 'boot' was the region worst affected by the seasonal phenomenon, with 22 blazes, followed by Lazio with 11, Campania with 10 and Liguria with 4. Cosenza in Calabria was the province registering the greatest number of wildfires (9), followed by Reggio Calabria with 7, Frosinone in Lazio with 6 and Avellino in Campania with 4. The forestry corps said it had received numerous reports of fires started due to negligence.
