Sardinian miners will continue strike until the 'bitter end'

(ANSA) - Rome, August 28 - Miners on strike on the Italian island of Sardinia said on Tuesday after their second night underground that they would continue their protest "until the bitter end". The 30 workers for Carbosulcis coal company are asking the government to go ahead with plans for clean-coal technology and CO2 storage. The miners began their strike Sunday evening and are held up 375 meters underground in the Nuraxi Figus and Gonnesa mines located in the Sulcis coal basin in the southwestern area of the island. Union spokesman Stefano Meletti said on Monday that workers are asking for "political answers" to create employment security.
