Venice Film Fest line-up has stars to match artistry

(ANSA) - Venice, August 27 - The 69th Venice International Film Festival opens on August 29 under the direction of the Italian film critic Alberto Barbera, who returns to the helm after an absence of 10 years. The quality of the films on offer is reflected in the calibre of the stars expected to attend, from Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman, protagonists of Paul Thomas Anderson's long-awaited "The Master", one of 18 films competing for the coveted Golden Lion award, to Robert Redford and Shia Labeouf of "The company you keep", which will premiere out of competition; the good-looking Swedish TV actor Alexander Skarsgard, Gerard Depardieu and Emmanuelle Seigner in "L'homme qui rit"; Kristin Scott Thomas and Jean Pierre Bacri in "Cherchez Hortense"; and Pierce Brosnan in "Love is all you need" by Susanne Bier. Italy is represented by the likes of Pierfrancesco Favino and Isabella Ferrari, jury members respectively for the section Orizzonti and the prize Leone del Futuro, Claudia Cardinale, Gianmarco Tognazzi, Piergiorgio Bellocchio, Valerio Mastandrea, Luigi Lo Cascio in his directorial debut and the acclaimed Toni Servillo, protagonist of Daniele Ciprì's film "E' stato il figlio", to name a few.
