Soccer: Juventus, Inter and Napoli off to a flying start

(ANSA) - Rome, August 27 - Defending champions Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli got off to flying starts as the Serie A championship kicked off at the weekend. But it was a shaky opening for AS Roma and a terrible one for AC Milan, who lost to 1-0 to Sampdoria after bidding farewell to Sweden forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Brazil defender Thiago Silva in pre-season transfers. Elsewhere, Juventus beat Parma 2-0 with the help of goals from Stephan Lichtsteiner and Andrea Pirlo. Inter beat newcomers Pescara 3-0 with goals from Wesley Sneijder, Diego Milito and Brasilian Coutinho. Napoli got off to a triumphant start with a 3-0 victory in Palermo with goals from Marek Hamsik, Christian Maggio and Edinson Cavani. While Lazio enjoyed a 1-0 victory over Bergamo-based Atalanta courtesy of a goal by Hernanes, it was an emotional opener for Roma as returning coach Zdenek Zeman's team drew 2-2 with Catania. Fiorentina opened the season with a 2-1 win against Udinese, courtesy of two goals from Stevan Jovetic. Genoa beat Cagliari 2-0, with second-half goals from Alexander Merkel and Ciro Immobile.
