Italian gas prices up another notch in Tuscany and Liguria

(ANSA) - Rome, August 27 - Record-high gasoline prices in Italy shot up even further in the regions of Tuscany and Liguria over the weekend, the energy newsletter Quotidiano Energia (QE) reported on Monday. Last week Italians felt the crunch when the price of gasoline hit a new record high, passing the two-euro-per-litre mark. On Monday prices reportedly reached 2.013 euros in Tuscany - which is very popular with summer travellers - according to data from QE. Central Italy in general is paying top prices, which peaked at 2.008 per litre last Tuesday. Often prices are cheaper off the main highway network, says QE, adding that several factors are contributing to higher prices including an increase in international prices and August holiday demand.
